Primary Applications of Alclar HP‑600
• Red Mud Separation / Clarification in Alumina Refining
-
In the Bayer process, after digestion of bauxite in sodium hydroxide, insoluble impurities (red mud) must be separated from the sodium aluminate “liquor.” Flocculants like Alclar help this by promoting aggregation of fine particles, speeding their settling, and yielding clearer overflow liquor and denser underflow (mud).
-
This results in: faster settling, more efficient separation, clearer liquor (less carry-over of solids), and improved downstream processing.
• Red Mud Washing & Waste Removal Efficiency

-
After initial separation, red mud is washed to remove residual caustic liquor. Using flocculants helps accelerate sedimentation, improving the performance of washers — yielding clearer overflow liquor, denser underflow, making waste handling more efficient.
-
This leads to better waste management, reduced water and chemical consumption, and more efficient removal of impurities.
• Hydrate Thickening / Liquor Clarification / Filtration
-
In steps where aluminum hydroxide hydrate is precipitated and during the filtration/filtrate recovery, flocculants aid in thickening of the precipitated hydrate and improving filtration efficiency.
-
Improves clarity of “clear liquor,” reduces impurities and enhances overall efficiency of alumina production.
